About the position

The Mechanic & Maintenance role at Reckitt's R&D Product Development Technical Center in Montvale, NJ, involves performing daily start-up operations and maintenance tasks within the facility. This position is crucial for ensuring the functionality and safety of both lab and office environments, requiring a variety of building trade skills and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform morning start-up duties including site walk around and inspection of building systems.
• Install or repair electric wiring, fixtures, and equipment as necessary.
• Install or relocate outlets, telephone and computer cables; replace fuses, sockets, bulbs, and switches when necessary.
• Repair and build laboratory equipment when possible.
• Perform special projects or build special lab equipment as required by the supervisor.
• Maintain and repair building electrical and mechanical equipment such as exhaust fans, HVAC equipment, motors, and pumps.
• Perform plumbing repairs on-site to heating systems, pneumatic controls, and lavatories.
• Carry out carpentry duties for minor office renovations and furniture repairs.
• Maintain a log of key inventory for the site.
• Repair carpets, tiles, and other flooring surfaces.
• Remove snow from sidewalks and apply salt/sand as needed.
• Order maintenance chemicals and necessary parts.
• Check and maintain chemical treatment for boilers, cooling towers, and grease traps.
• Maintain building water softening systems and schedule boiler inspections.
• Perform necessary filter changes and assist with maintenance and repair on fire systems.
• Perform supervisory duties when the supervisor is out of the office or off-site.
• Support all health and safety audits and inspections, including maintaining H&S log sheets.
• Ensure contractors have received proper safety training before work begins and complete necessary safety permits.

Requirements

• 5 to 7 years of experience utilizing a variety of building trade skills in an R&D/Office facility.
• High School or Technical School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to operate independently with limited supervision.
• Flexibility and initiative are desirable.
• Good technical aptitude and ability to communicate clearly.
• Ability to comprehend written and verbal instructions and perform basic math.
• Willingness to work outdoors and be available for overtime and on-call duties.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs and perform physical handling of materials.

Nice-to-haves

• State of NJ - Black Seal Boiler License
• Experience operating a fork-lift truck and a wide variety of hand and power tools commonly used in building trades.
• Experience operating boilers and air conditioning equipment.
