About the position

The Mechanic Specialist - Electrical is responsible for performing skilled automotive mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority's vehicles, including buses, trucks, and other mechanical equipment. This role requires a high level of expertise in various areas of vehicle repair, ensuring that all vehicles are maintained to the highest standards. The Mechanic Specialist will also supervise subordinate mechanics and maintain accurate records of maintenance activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled automotive mechanical work on buses, trucks, and other vehicles.
• Maintain proper maintenance and repair records for all vehicles.
• Operate agency vehicles as necessary and make road calls as needed.
• Advise the Foreman on needed repairs and assist in establishing maintenance priorities.
• Inspect, adjust, repair, and replace components and safety devices in vehicles.
• Use diagnostic equipment to analyze and monitor vehicle functions.
• Perform preventive maintenance on various vehicle systems including brakes, engines, and electrical systems.
• Maintain a safe and secure work environment by adhering to safety standards.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent with at least three years of experience in vehicular repair of heavy-duty equipment or buses.
• Completion of technical/vocational training in vehicular repair courses preferred.
• Experience with hand-held power tools used in vehicle repair.
• Excellent mechanical aptitude is required.
• Valid Connecticut driver's license and ability to obtain a Class B license and medical certificate within 90 days of employment.
• Knowledge of the basic theory and operation of engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
• Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
