About the position
The Metropolitan Transit System is seeking a skilled mechanic to inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical difficulties on City buses, automobiles, trucks, and a variety of diesel and gasoline powered maintenance vehicles. The role involves repairing various systems including electrical systems components, ignition systems, computers, alternators, generators, starters, batteries, hydraulic systems, and high pressure air systems. Additionally, the mechanic will maintain shop equipment and assist in the purchasing of equipment parts and materials. Record maintenance and assisting other mechanics in performing mechanical repairs are also key responsibilities. The position may include performing related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical difficulties on City buses, automobiles, trucks, and maintenance vehicles.
- Repair electrical systems components, ignition systems, computers, alternators, generators, starters, batteries, hydraulic systems, and high pressure air systems.
- Maintain shop equipment and assist in purchasing equipment parts and materials.
- Maintain records of repairs and assist other mechanics in mechanical repairs as required.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air-brake and passenger endorsements.
- Possession of or ability to obtain journey level certification in equipment repair.
- Working knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, airbrake systems, high pressure air and water systems, and hydraulic systems.
