About the position

The Mechanic position at Corewell Health is a critical role that provides first-line response for a wide variety of maintenance requests within the Beaumont facilities. This position is often the initial contact for customers, requiring a proactive approach to maintenance and repair tasks. The Mechanic is responsible for conducting safety inspections and performing a range of repairs including electronic, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems. Additionally, the role involves carpentry, sheet metal installations, and maintenance activities on various hospital systems. The Mechanic will also be responsible for ordering supplies and contacting vendors for warranty repairs on equipment. Emergency response duties include handling disaster situations, elevator entrapments, and being part of the chemical spill response team, as well as Code Red situations. The Mechanic will assist Supervisors, Leads, and Senior Mechanics as needed, ensuring that all maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. Essential functions of the role include conducting safety inspections of environmental rooms and incoming equipment, performing mechanical repairs on various hospital equipment, and executing plumbing repairs. The Mechanic will also engage in carpentry maintenance activities, electrical maintenance tasks, and refrigeration maintenance. Regular inspections and maintenance of hospital mechanical systems are required, along with the ability to identify and rectify defects in equipment and unsafe working conditions. The Mechanic will be expected to maintain a safe work environment and may need to work extended hours to address priority repairs or cover for colleagues during absences. This position requires participation in weekend, holiday, and shift rotations, emphasizing the need for flexibility and commitment to the role.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety inspections of environmental rooms and incoming equipment.
  • Perform mechanical repairs on office furniture, kitchen equipment, stretchers, beds, and wheelchairs.
  • Execute plumbing repairs including caulking and unclogging sinks, showers, and toilets.
  • Carry out carpentry maintenance activities such as hanging shelves and repairing doors.
  • Perform electrical maintenance tasks including replacing light bulbs and troubleshooting appliances.
  • Conduct refrigeration maintenance and respond to alarm systems for refrigerators.
  • Read and record data from hospital mechanical systems and investigate temperature control problems.
  • Check for defects in equipment and unsafe working conditions, taking corrective action as necessary.
  • Perform regular inspections and maintenance on various hospital systems and equipment.
  • Order parts and shop supplies as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Some coursework at a community college or approved technical training institution related to building maintenance or skilled trades is preferred.
  • Experience in building maintenance is preferred.
  • Experience in painting is preferred.
