About the position

The Mechanic at Owens Corning Corporate Services, LLC plays a crucial role in preserving and optimizing plant assets to meet manufacturing needs. This position involves mechanical troubleshooting, where the mechanic reacts to equipment failures and proactively identifies potential issues before they occur. The mechanic collaborates closely with equipment operators to minimize the impact of failures, ensuring smooth operations within the plant. Utilizing skills from various maintenance disciplines, the mechanic is responsible for performing mechanical analysis by reviewing equipment failure history and predictive maintenance data to enhance equipment performance. Additionally, the mechanic is involved in sandblasting and other maintenance support tasks as required. In this role, the mechanic also serves as a training specialist for apprentices, maintenance partners, and fellow mechanics. This includes developing and executing training plans, maintaining training records, and determining certification statuses for team members. The mechanic acts as a data manager, interacting with computerized plant systems to ensure accurate and up-to-date data input for assigned equipment. This encompasses utilizing computerized maintenance systems for parts procurement and managing relevant information related to equipment, budgets, and work methods. The principal duties include participating in safety and housekeeping programs, adhering to environmental regulations, installing and maintaining equipment, and performing various tasks such as carpentry, plumbing, and welding. The mechanic is expected to lead and assist apprentices, inspect wells, and operate machine shop equipment as assigned. This multifaceted role requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement in maintenance practices.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the safety and good housekeeping programs as established within the plant.
  • Adheres to rules and regulations, both internal and external, relative to environmental stewardship.
  • Installs, fabricates, repairs and maintains any equipment and machinery.
  • Utilizes diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturer's specifications, engineering drawings, verbal field instructions, or other related documents needed to perform assigned tasks.
  • Performs any carpentry and plumbing tasks. Works with power and hand tools common to the trades.
  • Installs and makes repairs on locks, door closers, and related hardware.
  • Insulates pipes, ducts, furnaces, tanks, ovens, walls, ceilings, and installations.
  • Erects and works from rigging, scaffolding, and ladders.
  • Maintains, diagnoses malfunctions, and repairs auto equipment and other related internal combustion powered machines.
  • Performs any type of electric arc and acetylene welding and cutting, including soldering, brazing, and inert gas welding.
  • Leads, assists, trains, and performs the duties of the Mechanic apprentices under the direction of the Maintenance Leader or Shift Leader.
  • Inspects wells and takes well water samples as necessary.
  • Assembles or rebuilds equipment or equipment parts.
  • Performs the duties of the Sheet Metal Worker classification as assigned.
  • Operates machine shop equipment as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 4 or more years related experience and/or training in an industrial environment.
  • Must be a US citizen or have the right to work in the US.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must be drug and alcohol free.
  • Must be able to secure and maintain forklift driver's license.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task.
  • Must work well in a team environment.
  • Must have the ability to do basic mathematical calculations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SAP system for parts requests.
