About the position

As a Mechanical Asset Manager at Vopak, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the engineering technical department, ensuring that all projects are developed and implemented in a cost-effective manner while aligning with the terminal's objectives. Your responsibilities will include managing capital construction projects, integrating new technologies, and providing technical support for facilities in the Southern Region, specifically in Deer Park and Corpus Christi. You will be tasked with ensuring that all engineering and construction activities comply with safety, health, and environmental regulations, while also promoting quality improvements and cost savings across the board. In this position, you will manage the engineering technical department, ensuring that all projects are executed efficiently and effectively. You will be responsible for developing and delivering on the three-year management plan (3YMP) for the region, coordinating with various departments to identify projects that meet the needs of terminal operations. Your role will also involve evaluating and integrating new technologies related to terminal operations, ensuring that equipment is compatible and performing process evaluations to enhance operational efficiency. Additionally, you will oversee the design and construction of facility modifications, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, health, and quality expectations. You will interface with operations to provide necessary support and remain current on all technology related to the facilities. Responsibilities

  • Manage the engineering technical department for the Southern Region.
  • Ensure all projects are developed and implemented to promote cost savings and quality improvements.
  • Develop and deliver on the 3YMP for the region.
  • Align with all departments to identify projects that meet terminal needs.
  • Complete new product inquiries (NPI) in a timely manner for the commercial department.
  • Provide development and growth plans for the technical department to build bench strength.
  • Abide by all safety procedures and practices applicable to the location and position.
  • Plan and implement major repairs and upgrades of facility equipment to ensure the most current technology is in place.
  • Evaluate and integrate new technology related to terminal operation; ensure equipment compatibility and perform process evaluations.
  • Purchase appropriate parts; oversee inventory and control costs of parts spending; review P&L.
  • Coordinate technical and engineering matters; provide technical support for facilities and personnel in the Southern Region.
  • Implement safety and environmental regulatory requirements for all facilities as required.
  • Coordinate capital construction projects to ensure they meet the needs and expectations of terminal operating groups.
  • Oversee the design and construction of facility modifications, updates, and additions; ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, health, and quality expectations on projects.
  • Interface with Operations; provide support to facility as required or as directed by the manager at the facility.
  • Remain current on all technology related to facilities.
  • Train regularly on all Federal, state, and local environmental regulations, requirements, and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management that fall within the generally expected scope of this position.

Requirements

  • 4 year college degree in Engineering or similar technical field.
  • Advanced degree in business or technical field helpful.
  • 2 - 5 years engineering experience at a petroleum, chemical or similar industry plant highly desirable.
  • Project management and/or experience with construction projects desired; experience budgeting and planning projects preferred.
  • Ability to research best chemical plant practices in safety, health, and environmental areas for engineering and construction.
  • Ability to read engineering, construction and other technical specs, drawings, schematics, plans, and similar documents.
  • Ability to read and understand complex government regulations and translate/incorporate these requirements into terminal construction, engineering and maintenance plans.
  • Ability to translate technical plans into easy-to-understand laymen's terms and communicate such translations in clear terminology.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, MSProject, PowerPoint; various email and internet programs and applications; computer-based design experience preferred.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written; Spanish language skills helpful; listening skills; experience creating and delivering presentations.
  • Experience working with Federal, state and local environmental regulations including RCRA.
