About the position

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Mechanical CAD/Creo Designer/Drafter - Mechanical Designer for its South Boston, Virginia location. This role is responsible for Drafting with low to medium complexity. The designer will complete assignments on small design projects or portions of larger designs, ensuring that all work is cost-effective and adheres to tender/order specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. The overall responsibility includes CAD/Creo activities related to the mechanical designs of Power Transformers. This encompasses 3D modeling of parts and assemblies, 2D drafting for drawings, layouts, and sections, as well as supporting control wiring designs, detailed designs, bill of materials, shipping drawings, and as-built drawings. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate. The Mechanical CAD/Creo Designer will prepare mechanical designs and develop power transformers, ensuring compliance with industry standards, client specifications, and project requirements to support production. A prime focus will be on demonstrating knowledge in advanced high-end CAD/Creo software to ensure that CAD/Creo activities, including 3D modeling in parts and assemblies at different levels, and 2D drafting for drawings and BOMs, are delivered on time and meet engineering quality standards. Familiarity with design principles, guidelines, and applicable standards used within the manufacturing design of Power Transformers is essential. The designer will also support peer reviews and design reviews with internal stakeholders, including customers and suppliers. Evaluating, selecting, and applying standard techniques and procedures to perform transformer layout design, coordinating with electrical engineers to gather inputs, and generating the necessary drawings for manufacturing are key responsibilities. Ensuring adherence to safety standards and mitigating potential risks is a critical aspect of this role. Responsibilities

  • Prepare mechanical design and development of power transformers, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client specifications.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in advanced high-end CAD/Creo software to deliver CAD/Creo activities on time and meet engineering quality standards.
  • Perform 3D modeling in parts and assemblies and 2D drafting for drawings and BOMs.
  • Support peer review and design review with internal stakeholders including customers and suppliers.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques and procedures for transformer layout design.
  • Coordinate with electrical engineers to gather inputs and generate drawings for manufacturing.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and mitigate potential risks.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Mechanical or Computer Drafting and Design with Drafting/3D modeling or related certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years modeling and drafting experience (Internship & Co-ops experience are also considered).
  • Hands-on knowledge in designing with CAD/Creo and 3D modeling tools.
  • Experience in design engineering of any power product is highly preferred.
  • Experience with manufacturing and production processes and standardization and modularization of structures.
