About the position

The Mechanical Claims Specialist (MCS) role at Ally is designed for individuals with a passion for automotive mechanics who wish to transition from manual labor to a more customer-focused position. The MCS will collaborate with dealers, repair facilities, and customers to provide technical claim support and policy assistance related to vehicle service contracts and insurance programs. This role emphasizes leveraging mechanical knowledge to ensure customer satisfaction and effective claims processing.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage automotive technical knowledge to assist selling dealers and repair facilities in filing claims.
  • Respond to inbound calls and written correspondence from customers, dealers, repair facilities, and financial institutions regarding policy administration and claim inquiries.
  • Achieve total customer satisfaction when handling contract and claim matters.
  • Research existing case information through manuals, databases, or contacts.

Requirements

  • 2+ years' experience in the automotive repair industry preferred.
  • Strong mechanical background with effective communication skills to interact with repair facilities.
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to negotiate and make quick decisions while managing conflicting priorities.
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to navigate technical platforms; must pass a virtual mechanical test during the interview process.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as an auto mechanic, dealership service manager, or service technician.
  • Technical degrees or certifications in automotive technology.
