About the position

The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer at Stantec is responsible for overseeing all phases of commissioning projects, ensuring that complex systems are properly tested and optimized for performance. This role involves engineering design reviews, preparation of commissioning documentation, and direct interaction with clients and contractors to ensure successful project execution. The engineer will also develop standard operating procedures and manage the training of on-site staff, contributing to the overall mission of delivering reliable and cost-effective engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in all phases of commissioning projects including planning, scheduling, and coordination of work.
  • Performs engineering design reviews and prepares commissioning scripts and reports.
  • Directs client-site testing and manages the training of on-site staff.
  • Prepares equipment pre-start-up and start-up procedures.
  • Develops standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Methods of Procedures (MOPs).
  • Prepares commissioning test procedures and reports.
  • Develops and maintains commissioning logs, equipment checklists, and other tools to track commissioning projects.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports and recommendations for optimizing building operations.
  • Reviews design criteria, specifications, drawings, and equipment submittals pertinent to commissioning.
  • Participates in commissioning activity meetings and interfaces with construction contractors, vendors, and testing technicians.
  • Conducts tests and compiles all testing procedure results.
  • Integrates system testing and conducts Load Bank Testing.
  • Develops and administers functional tests for various building MEP systems.

Requirements

  • B.ASc. or B.Eng. in civil/structural engineering with strong interest and experience in bridge engineering.
  • P.Eng. and 10 years' experience in leading large transportation structures projects.
  • Experience in project management and ability to perform outdoor physical duties.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with SAP2000, CSiBridge, SFRAME.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and excel in both bridge and multi-disciplined projects.
  • Proven ability to supervise, direct, and mentor staff.
  • Demonstrated interest in business development activities and preparation of proposals.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with building MEP systems such as HVAC, air handling units, and power distribution units.
  • Familiarity with commissioning documentation and procedures.
