About the position

The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer at Stantec is responsible for overseeing all phases of commissioning projects, ensuring that complex systems are properly tested and optimized for performance. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including construction contractors and vendors, to deliver reliable and cost-effective engineering solutions for a range of clients in institutional, industrial, residential, and commercial sectors. The engineer will prepare comprehensive documentation, conduct tests, and provide recommendations to enhance building operations.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in all phases of commissioning projects including planning, scheduling, and coordination of work.
  • Performs engineering design reviews, prepares commissioning scripts and reports, directs client-site testing, and manages the training of on-site staff.
  • Prepares equipment pre-start-up and start-up procedures.
  • Develops standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Methods of Procedures (MOPs); Comprehensive Commissioning documentation.
  • Prepares commissioning test procedures and reports.
  • Develops and maintains commissioning logs, equipment checklists, and other tools to track commissioning projects.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports; recommendations for optimizing building operations, functional checklists, list of deficiencies, equipment operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Reviews design criteria, specifications, drawings, equipment submittal, and other documentation pertinent to commissioning.
  • Participates in commissioning activity meetings.
  • Interfaces with construction contractors, vendors, and testing technicians.
  • Conducts tests and compiles all testing procedure results.
  • Integrates system testing; Load Bank Testing; and Compilation of all testing procedure results.
  • Develops and administers functional tests for various building MEP systems, such as HVAC air and water distribution systems, air handling units, pumps, cooling towers, chillers, boilers, UPS, Generator, Switchgear Power Distribution Units.

Requirements

  • B.ASc. or B.Eng. in civil/structural engineering, with strong interest and experience in bridge engineering.
  • P.Eng. and 10 years' experience in leading large transportation structures projects.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with SAP2000, CSiBridge, SFRAME.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and excel in both bridge and multi-disciplined projects.
  • Proven ability to supervise, direct, and mentor staff.
  • Demonstrated interest in business development activities and preparation of proposals.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to direct a team and mentor the technical development of others.
  • Works well with minimal direct supervision.
