About the position

Tesla is accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy, and the Chassis Design Engineering team plays a critical role in that mission. This team is dedicated to delivering a safe, efficient, comfortable, and enjoyable driving experience while focusing on the sustainability and value of Tesla's products. The Chassis Design Engineering team is composed of engineers from various backgrounds and experience levels, fostering an environment of collaboration, learning, and growth. We seek individuals with exceptional problem-solving abilities, both in individual and team settings. As an industry leader in chassis technology and development, Chassis Engineering at Tesla is looking for engineers who are passionate about advancing the state-of-the-art in by-wire actuation and active/adaptive suspension systems. The team operates in small, dedicated groups responsible for managing components such as tires, wheels, hubs, halfshafts, steering, suspension, subframes, brakes, pedals/controls, and air suspension and damping systems across all Tesla passenger car, autonomous, and heavy vehicle programs. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for taking parts and systems from concept to production, collaborating with other engineering teams at Tesla. This role requires a system approach to mechanical design and electromechanical integration of air suspension, pneumatics, air processing, suspension, and air brake systems for heavy vehicles. Responsibilities include design, analysis, sourcing, prototyping, testing, vehicle assembly validation, quality control, and engineering documentation. The engineer will apply mechanical engineering fundamentals to creatively solve problems and manage projects independently, striving to exceed the status quo in terms of cost, mass, and performance. Clear and effective communication with both technical and non-technical colleagues is essential, and hands-on experience is a significant advantage for addressing production issues. Some travel to suppliers, including international travel, may be required.
