The Mechanical Design Engineer I position at Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. involves working on innovative designs for unmanned aerial systems. The engineer will collaborate with a team to develop and implement designs for tactical aircraft systems, ensuring they meet project objectives and customer requirements. Responsibilities

  • Design components manufactured from composite and metallic materials.
  • Develop mechanical fluid systems to route liquids and gases.
  • Integrate hardware into complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Prepare formal engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, and parts lists.
  • Utilize Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) for designing and documenting aerospace hardware.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and perform tolerance studies.
  • Prepare and present design review materials for technical interchange meetings.
  • Ensure project scope meets objectives per schedule and cost targets.
  • Support system testing, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
  • Assist in flight testing, data reduction, analysis, and reporting.
  • Prepare test plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Comply with established Quality Management System procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Structures Engineering preferred).
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated passion for customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to travel as necessary to perform job duties.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant experience and/or coursework in mechanical/structures engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally to meet program requirements.
