About the position

The Mechanical Design Engineer III position at Airswift involves leading and supporting engineering design changes for mechanical projects within the nuclear industry. The role requires developing technical specifications, conducting engineering calculations, and providing ongoing support for design modifications. The selected individual will act as a Responsible Engineer, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards while collaborating with various engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the scope, technical basis, installation, and testing requirements for engineering design changes.
  • Research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternative solutions, and present recommendations.
  • Provide ongoing support of assigned engineering design changes through work order resolutions and field installation support activities.
  • Develop or revise design specifications and technical requirement documents.
  • Develop or revise complex engineering calculations impacted by engineering design changes.
  • Develop safety screens and evaluations that support engineering design changes.
  • Revise site design basis documents, design drawings, and regulatory documents impacted by engineering design changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent BS degree with relevant work experience.
  • 15+ years of engineering experience in the nuclear industry with experience in design modification package preparation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear facility.
  • Strong oral/written communication skills within a professional environment.
  • Skilled in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, and making sound recommendations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Registration/Licensure as a Professional Engineer.
  • Engineering experience at a nuclear plant.
  • Experience in the 10CFR50.59 with respect to designing modifications to a nuclear facility.
  • Experience with the nuclear industry standard design process.
