About the position

The Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in XY linear stage motion systems at KLA will be responsible for creating precise and efficient mechanical solutions. This role involves collaboration with multi-functional teams to design and optimize mechanical components, ensuring they meet performance and reliability standards. The engineer will also engage in system integration, testing, materials selection, and documentation, while continuously seeking innovative improvements in motion control technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to conceptualize, design, and iterate on XY linear stage systems.
  • Use CAD software (such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD) to build detailed 2D and 3D designs.
  • Optimize mechanical components for performance, accuracy, and manufacturability.
  • Work closely with electrical engineers and control systems experts to integrate mechanical components seamlessly.
  • Conduct detailed testing, including stress analysis, thermal simulations, and vibration testing.
  • Ensure XY stages meet precision requirements, load capacity, and environmental conditions.
  • Evaluate material properties and select appropriate materials for components.
  • Prototype and validate designs through rapid prototyping techniques (3D printing, CNC machining, etc.).
  • Build comprehensive design documentation, including assembly instructions, BOMs, and technical specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO, ASME, etc.) and safety regulations.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and trends in motion control and automation.
  • Propose innovative solutions to enhance system performance, reduce friction, and improve reliability.
  • Communicate effectively to convey design intent and address technical challenges.

Requirements

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
  • Proficient in CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Proficient in structural, thermal, and vibration/modal Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail are essential.
  • Experience with linear motion systems, precision mechanics, and kinematics is necessary.
  • Doctorate (Academic) Degree and 0 years related work experience; Master's Level Degree and related work experience of 3 years; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 5 years.
