At IMEG, one of the largest design consulting firms in the U.S., we are excited to offer a Mechanical Engineering Graduate - Designer 1 position in our Reno, NV office, starting in May 2025. In this position, you will work closely with experienced engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients, ensuring positive outcomes. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting in the design and analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems. You will utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations that adhere to code requirements and IMEG standards. This role requires effective communication with clients to understand their needs and gather project requirements, as well as collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. As part of your responsibilities, you will assist in project planning and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines, document design decisions, and monitor project design progress. You will analyze low to medium complexity engineering tasks and propose innovative solutions while participating in IMEG's quality control processes to ensure that all engineering designs meet industry standards and client requirements. Staying up to date with industry trends and contributing to research and development efforts will also be key aspects of your role. Safety is a priority, and you will be expected to identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with mechanical systems. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Interact with clients to understand their needs and gather project requirements.
  • Communicate technical information effectively and build client relationships through professional communication.
  • Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects.
  • Assist in project planning and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Document design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress.
  • Analyze low to medium complexity engineering tasks and propose innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions.
  • Participate in IMEG quality control processes to ensure engineering designs meet quality standards.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering.
  • Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and identify potential safety risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills, including knowledge of thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics as it relates to mechanical systems design.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications.
  • Familiarity with industry standard engineering software and tools, including HVAC load calculation software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • Basic knowledge in the use of BIM software.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
