The role involves evaluating new concepts based on first principles, conducting rigorous cost analyses, and performing reliability testing to ensure the feasibility and reliability of designs. In this role, the Mechanical Design Engineer will participate in cross-functional development of product requirements, designing mechanical solutions for integrating photovoltaic systems into roofs. The engineer will engage in agile concept development and CAD creation, applying first principles analysis through solid mechanics and strength of materials calculations. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for qualifying new technology platforms for design applications and managing rapid prototyping projects, both internally and with external contract manufacturers. The position also involves collaborating with the DFMEA test plan development and validation teams, working closely with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure effective DFM, and supporting pilot testing and product launches.
