About the position

The Mechanical Design Engineer at BWX Technologies will be responsible for performing detailed component and system design engineering activities, including creating drawings, calculations, and reports. This role involves designing mechanical components with a focus on assembly, testing, and inspection, while implementing design control and configuration control concepts. The position is part of the Advanced Technologies group, which focuses on innovative nuclear solutions for various applications.

Responsibilities

• Perform detail component, system and design engineering activities including drawings, calculations, and reports.
• Conduct component design with an understanding of assembly, testing, and inspection of mechanical components.
• Implement design control and configuration control concepts.
• Apply design for manufacturing and system operations concepts.
• Specify procurement requirements for mechanical components or system operability.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Physics discipline is required.
• A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience is required.
• Experience in nuclear reactor core components, reactor vessel and reactor vessel head components is necessary.
• Working knowledge of ASME Code, Section III and VIII is required.
• General knowledge of project engineering activities (task plans, schedules, etc.) is needed.
• Ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely written and verbal communication is required.
• Strong team player with the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers is essential.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and independently is required.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance.
