About the position

The Product Design/Mechanical Engineer at Apple will lead the design, development, and validation of silicon validation test fixtures. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to create innovative designs, manage multiple priorities, and ensure effective communication throughout the development cycle. The engineer will be responsible for the end-to-end mechanical development of test fixtures, including defining requirements, generating CAD models, conducting design reviews, and driving fabrication processes.

Responsibilities

  • Define mechanical requirements and interfaces for fixtures
  • Brainstorm design concepts and execute them through all phases of the development cycle
  • Generate innovative designs with cross-functional teams
  • Define mechanical component outlines and assembly schemes
  • Communicate cross-functionally on design directions and requirements
  • Generate fixture design PD specifications
  • Create 3D CAD models of PCBs including Keepout, Keepin, and height restrictions
  • Perform dimensional and tolerance analysis
  • Manage and track multiple priorities within schedule requirements
  • Prototype bring-up, debug, and characterization
  • Participate in the development of new testing processes
  • Conduct design reviews and drive fabrication
  • Validate designs and characterize from prototype bring-up to product testing
  • Drive failure analyses and design of experiments (DOEs) to reach design solutions and corrective actions

Requirements

  • Minimum requirement of BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3 years of relevant proven experience
  • Hands-on product design experience in consumer electronic products or modules
  • Direct fixture design experience is highly preferred
  • 3D CAD experience required, NX preferred
  • Experience with ECAD-MCAD data exchange using IDF, IDX required
  • Disciplined in GD&T practices with close attention to datum establishment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact with management, team members, and external vendors

Nice-to-haves

  • Applied knowledge in flex circuits, printed circuit boards, material science, and basic chemistry
  • Scientific method and experimental process experience
  • Root cause analysis experience
