About the position

The Mechanical Design Engineer at Rockford Fosgate plays a crucial role in the new product design process, from conception to production. This position focuses on creating innovative audio solutions that enhance user experiences through well-thought-out design and integration. The engineer will collaborate with various teams and stakeholders to ensure that products meet both functional and aesthetic standards while adhering to budget and schedule constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the new product design process from conception to production.
  • Provides design for manufacturing guidance to the industrial design team.
  • Performs 3D modeling of all components and assemblies.
  • Creates and checks 2D drawings that comply with ANSI Y14.5 standards.
  • Ensures functional design aesthetics align with industrial design intent.
  • Interfaces and collaborates with suppliers, customers, and other staff.
  • Performs analysis of assembly methods and part tolerance stack up.
  • Designs mechanical parts to be produced by plastic molding, sheet metal, extrusions, die castings.
  • Performs cost estimate analysis.
  • Performs electrical and mechanical interfacing analysis.
  • Writes reports and documentation.
  • Ensures projects are completed on schedule and within approved budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field with a minimum of 1 year of experience in Consumer Product Design.
  • Proficient in Solidworks (solids, surfacing, assemblies, drawings, analysis).
  • Experience in Creo (nice to have).
  • Comfortable working on multiple projects with varying levels of complexity at the same time.
  • Knowledge of thermal dynamics, material composition, and material properties.
  • Familiarity with the integration of complete audio systems including source units, speakers, subwoofers, and amplifiers (nice to have).
  • Working knowledge of typical design and performance standards, design verification testing, part qualification process, and quality systems and standards such as ISO and QS.
  • Excellent communications and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in the full Microsoft suite of products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PPT).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Creo.
  • Familiarity with the integration of complete audio systems including source units, speakers, subwoofers, and amplifiers.
