Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, analyzes, and troubleshoots mechanical systems during research and product development.
  • Plans, conducts, and technically directs projects or phases of significant projects.
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and plans methods of approach to solve complex technical problems.
  • Establishes theoretical basis and principles for projects, including empirical test procedures and resource estimation.
  • Reviews project progress and evaluates results, recommending corrections in technical applications and analysis.
  • Specifies materials, equipment, and supplies required for technical projects.
  • Evaluates vendor capabilities to provide required products or services.
  • Provides technical consultation to technical staff, other organizations, and senior management.
  • Uses industry practices and company policies to resolve a wide range of issues creatively and practically.
  • Interacts with senior internal employees and works with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in a mechanical design role.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.).
  • Familiarity with standard ANSI drafting practices.
  • Significant experience in finite element analysis.
  • Familiarity with underwater acoustics is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with production methods.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and personal protective equipment.
