About the position

We are seeking an ambitious Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in Metals, Energy, or Plastics to join a successful international manufacturer based in Cleveland, OH. This role is pivotal in providing product engineering services, which include new product development, product modifications, and technical services. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for developing product parameters, specifications, and engineering drawings, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary regulatory and safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and have between 2 to 10 years of experience in product development or application engineering. True mechanical design experience is essential, particularly in designing products. Familiarity with design software such as Creo/Pro-E, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD is required, along with project management skills to oversee various engineering projects effectively. In this role, the engineer will provide technical support to Marketing and Manufacturing for existing product offerings, evaluate alternative materials for cost reductions and improved performance, and assist in the development of new products. The engineer will also work closely with vendors regarding tooling and part fabrication issues, ensuring that all products meet quality acceptance criteria and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the engineer will help analyze field complaints and product failures, collaborating with the Materials Engineer to determine the causes of material failures and proposing solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to Marketing and Manufacturing for existing product offerings.
  • Evaluate alternative materials for cost reductions/improved performance.
  • Assist with new product development and product modification work.
  • Develop product parameters, specifications, and engineering drawings.
  • Work with vendors concerning tooling and part fabrication issues in conjunction with the Purchasing Department.
  • Consider regulatory issues, safety regulations, application procedures, quality acceptance criteria, verification analysis, and design review requirements in the product development process.
  • Provide technical performance data necessary to support the sale of new and modified products.
  • Extend existing products to affect greater use by customers after proper testing and engineering evaluation.
  • Modify products to perform specialized jobs required by customers and deemed necessary by marketing or engineering.
  • Handle field complaints and product failures, analyzing problems and recommending solutions after proper engineering and laboratory studies.
  • Consult with Materials Engineer to determine causes of material failures.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality Assurance, and Materials Engineer to determine acceptable quality and resolve quality issues.
  • Interpret engineering recommendations, customer specifications, and engineering drawings.
  • Attend technical meetings, conferences, and specialized courses consistent with area of responsibility.
  • Develop and conduct material test procedures to comply with industry and customer specifications, preparing and performing analysis in support of product development.
  • Utilize Pro-E, SolidWorks design, or AutoCAD software.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2-10 years of experience with product development/application engineering.
  • True mechanical design experience, specifically in designing products.
  • Experience with Creo/Pro-E, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.
  • Project management skills.
