About the position

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and developing new mechanical systems, particularly in the turbomachinery domain. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions for high-performance mechanical systems, focusing on rotating equipment such as turbines, compressors, and pumps.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems and components in the turbomachinery domain using CAD software.
  • Apply design for manufacturability and assembly principles to ensure product viability.
  • Construct Free Body Diagrams and perform hand calculations for stress, strain, and thermal growth.
  • Review structural analyses on components and assemblies to ensure application requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
  • Support design validation and product development through testing and data analysis.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to product development from concept to production.
  • Develop comprehensive technical documentation including design specifications and test procedures.
  • Assist with Root Cause investigations to diagnose machinery issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in mechanical design and product development, preferably in turbomachinery.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Familiar with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles.
  • Experience with detailed bills of material creation and maintenance.
  • Experience working within an ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality management system.
  • Strong background in mechanical engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with FEA tools for stress, modal, harmonic, and thermal analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in turbomachinery design or rotating equipment.
  • Experience with aftermarket support of turbomachinery.
  • Proficient with CAE analysis software (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, NASTRAN).
  • Experience with rotordynamic analysis.
  • Experience with CFD analysis of internal flows and turbomachinery.
  • Proficient with CAD Data Management tools (e.g., SolidWorks PDM, Teamcenter).
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
  • Experience developing quality and change management systems.
  • Experience with manufacturing resource planning system implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
