About the position

Gannett Fleming provides building-focused architectural and engineering services to a variety of commercial, industrial, and institutional clients. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and production of documents for heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, boiler and chiller plants, plumbing systems, fluid distribution systems, fire protection systems, and process mechanical systems. The role requires a thorough understanding of mechanical building codes and construction standards, as well as experience in systems design and applications, economic evaluations, life-cycle cost analyses, energy conservation, equipment selection, specifications, construction administration, and commissioning of systems. The position also involves conducting field surveys of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems, testing existing systems, and performing energy studies. Projects will span various sectors including public works, industrial, military, mass transit, healthcare, educational, and commercial facilities, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and energy efficiency, including LEED and other green building certifications. The candidate will engage in the design of HVAC systems, preparation of design calculations, report writing, project specification writing, proactive problem identification and resolution, and coordination and verification of project deliverables. Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a consulting mechanical engineering firm
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical building codes and construction standards
  • Revit and AutoCAD proficiency required
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills are required

Nice-to-haves

  • PE a plus, but not required
  • LEED AP or GA is a plus
  • Understanding of DDC controls and controls design and operation
  • Knowledge of Engineering programs for ASHRAE based calculations such as Trane Trace
  • Experience with K-12, Higher Education, transportation facilities and water/wastewater facilities is a plus
