About the position
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be part of the Service Provider Mechanical and Thermal team at Cisco, focusing on the design of high-performance routers, specifically the Cisco 8000 series. This role involves working on both current and next-generation mechanical designs for telecom systems, contributing to the development of innovative mechanical solutions that meet various compliance and performance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver next generation chassis and cards that meet system product requirements.
- Develop 3D CAD models using Creo or NX.
- Create detailed drawings applying Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning (GD&T) principles.
- Perform detailed 2D tolerance analysis for complex electro-mechanical assemblies using spreadsheet and/or 3D tolerance analysis tools such as CETol.
- Design and develop innovative mechanical solutions using sheet metal, plastic, and die-cast that meet EMI, safety, and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Hardware, Signal Integrity, CAD, Thermal, Manufacturing, etc.) to negotiate requirements and evaluate technical risks and tradeoffs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of experience.
- Experience in the use of 3D MCAD tools (Creo/NX/SolidWorks).
- Experience with sheet metal design.
- Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis.
Nice-to-haves
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3+ years of experience.
- Experience in the mechanical design of electronic enclosures/computer/networking.
- Experience in manufacturing tooling for sheet metal, plastic, and die-casting.
- Experience designing plastic and die-cast parts.
- Experience in tolerance analysis, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and statistical analysis.
- Model-Based Definition (MBD) experience.
