About the position

As a Mechanical Designer/Drafter at MTS Systems Corporation, you will play a crucial role in preparing clear, complete, and accurate design documentation that assists in the sale, manufacture, and service of various components, products, or systems. Your work will involve collaborating with engineers and other team members to consolidate information from notes, verbal instructions, sketches, and engineering specifications to create working plans, layouts, and detailed drawings. You will be responsible for reviewing designs, resolving undefined details, and determining the best combination of preliminary information to develop final designs that meet MTS standards and procedures. In this position, you will utilize engineering principles to develop specifications, designs, or drawings, ensuring adherence to MTS best practices in the design, layout, and documentation of both custom and standard products. You will be expected to create models, drawings, assemblies, and Bills of Materials using CAD systems and other computer tools, while following MTS CAD Best Practices for model creation, drawing creation, file management, and revision control. Your attention to detail will be critical as you verify completed work, checking dimensions, Bills of Materials, materials to be used, and processing information to ensure compliance with established standards. Additionally, you will be tasked with making sound decisions to meet project budgets and deadlines, providing scheduling, costing, and technical information to internal departments and external vendors. You will also resolve documentation and system problems related to designed or purchased parts, ensuring that any changes are documented in accordance with engineering change procedures. Regular feedback and updates to project team members and your immediate supervisor regarding the status of design tasks will be an essential part of your responsibilities. Responsibilities

  • Prepare clear, complete, and accurate design documentation for components, products, or systems.
  • Consolidate information from various sources to create working plans, layouts, and detailed drawings.
  • Review designs and resolve undefined details to develop final designs.
  • Develop specifications, designs, or drawings using engineering principles and MTS standards.
  • Create models, drawings, assemblies, and Bills of Materials using CAD systems.
  • Verify completed work by checking dimensions, Bills of Materials, and adherence to best practices.
  • Make decisions to meet project budgets and deadlines, providing scheduling and costing information.
  • Resolve documentation and system problems with designed or purchased parts.
  • Document changes in accordance with engineering change procedures.
  • Provide regular feedback and updates to project team members and supervisors about design tasks.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or Vo-tech certificate in drafting, design, industrial design, industrial engineering, electronics, or technical illustration and 2 years drafting/design experience; or a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency with a minimum of 6 years relevant drafting/design experience.
  • Knowledge and 2-3 years' experience with SolidWorks.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Experience with large-scale industrial machines and machine design.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and EPLAN.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with advanced CAD software features.
