About the position

The Mechanical Designer & Drafter position is a full-time role based in Satsuma, AL, where the individual will be responsible for providing comprehensive design and drafting functions for pressure vessels. This role involves close interaction with customer engineering and design groups to ensure that all specifications and requirements are met effectively. The primary duties include reviewing customer specifications for new vessel inquiries, developing CAD-based designs and drawings for bids, and communicating with customers to clarify any design-related questions. The designer will be expected to apply engineering design principles to various vessel components, ensuring that the designs are both efficient and accurate. In addition to creating designs, the Mechanical Designer & Drafter will finalize vessel designs and supply the estimating team with the necessary information for the estimating process. This includes creating calculation reports based on the vessel designs for customer review. The role requires maintaining extensive knowledge of technical documents, drawings, specifications, and standards relevant to the projects and clients. The designer will also be responsible for requisitioning all materials needed for the jobs and developing plans to accomplish project goals while scoring performance metrics. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical and piping drafting and design, with a preference for those holding an Associate's degree or equivalent experience. A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is considered a plus. Familiarity with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite is essential, along with a solid understanding of relevant codes and standards such as ASME and TEMA. Experience with COMPRESS Pressure Vessel Design software and knowledge of fabrication techniques will also be beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Review customer specifications and requirements for new vessel inquiries.
  • Develop CAD-based designs and drawings for bids.
  • Communicate with customers regarding design questions.
  • Design vessels and heat exchangers efficiently and accurately.
  • Apply engineering design principles to various vessel components.
  • Finalize vessel designs and supply estimating with required information.
  • Create calculation reports from vessel designs for customers.
  • Create drawing packages for customers based on designs.
  • Maintain knowledge of technical documents, drawings, specifications, and standards related to projects and clients.
  • Requisition all materials on jobs.
  • Develop plans to accomplish project goals and scorecard.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent preferred.
  • 2+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical/piping drafting and design.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is a plus.
  • Experience in SolidWorks is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and related construction drawings.
  • Understanding of SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with ASME Code Sections I, II, V, VIII Div. I and II and IX, TEMA, ASCE, IBC, and UBC.
  • Experience with COMPRESS Pressure Vessel Design software.
  • Familiarity with fabrication and fabrication techniques.
