About the position

The Designer/Draftsman is a critical role within our engineering team, responsible for maintaining and developing 3D models and 2D drawings that adhere to both company and client standards. This position requires a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of mechanical design principles. The Designer/Draftsman will create and prepare process drawings, 3D models, details, and drawing sheet packages that are essential for fabrication and construction processes. The role involves utilizing advanced design and drafting software to produce a variety of technical drawings, including process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and general arrangements. In this position, the Designer/Draftsman will work closely under the supervision of an engineer and design lead, ensuring that all designs meet the required specifications and standards. The ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics is essential, as is the capacity to interface effectively with fabrication and construction staff to address fit-up and other related issues. The Designer/Draftsman will also be expected to adapt to changes in the workplace and utilize critical thinking and reasoning skills to solve problems as they arise. This is a full-time position that offers the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, contributing to the overall success of the engineering team and the company as a whole. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in piping and mechanical design and drafting, along with the ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally. Overall, the Designer/Draftsman plays a vital role in ensuring that all design work is completed accurately and efficiently, contributing to the successful execution of projects from conception through to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain 3D models and 2D drawings in accordance with company and client standards.
  • Create and prepare process drawings, 3D models, details, and drawing sheet packages for fabrication and construction.
  • Utilize design and drafting software to develop process drawings, 3D models, general arrangements, utility drawings, and detail drawings under close supervision.
  • Create process flow and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Design 3D models from process drawings and company specifications with minimal supervision.
  • Create 2D drawing package layouts from 3D models.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics.
  • Interface with fabrication and construction staff to examine fit-up and other issues.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree and 5+ years related experience required.
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Strong background in piping and mechanical design and drafting is a must.
  • Ability to communicate in writing clearly and concisely.
  • Adapt to change in the workplace.
  • Use thinking and reasoning to solve problems.
  • Communicate effectively with others using the spoken word.
  • Ability to make critical decisions while following company procedures.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D solid modeling/CAD package experience or training in college is required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3D modeling experience is a must.
  • Autodesk Inventor highly preferred.
  • Solidworks experience may be considered.
  • Experience with Autodesk Plant 3D is a plus.
