Mechanical Designer II

About the position

The Mechanical Designer II position at Jefferson Lab involves designing and modifying complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment and systems. The role requires a self-motivated individual who can solve technical challenges and work collaboratively with engineers and physicists. The position is hybrid, allowing for a combination of on-site and remote work based on business needs, and is integral to supporting groundbreaking scientific research.

Responsibilities

• Design and modify complex electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment and systems.
• Utilize CAD applications to generate layouts and designs for equipment.
• Gather information, compute calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches for design proposals.
• Coordinate design criteria with engineers, physicists, and other stakeholders.
• Create and modify equipment for installations at JLab and other government-supported laboratories.
• Perform system layout and detailed design of SRF cryomodules and components, vacuum, and cryogenic piping according to ASME codes.
• Produce accurate fabrication documentation including 3D modeling and assembly drawings using NX/Teamcenter and AutoCAD.
• Read and understand blueprint drawings, component specifications, and technical data sheets.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 5 or more years of relevant experience in mechanical design or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Intermediate skills and knowledge in one technology trade or specialty.
• Knowledge of ASME codes and standards.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with NX/Teamcenter software.
• Ability to identify schedule conflicts and provide solutions.
