About the position

The Mechanical Designer role at HDR involves evaluating and designing mechanical systems for various facilities, ensuring economical and efficient solutions. The position requires collaboration with engineers and drafters, participation in on-site inspections, and the production of design documents and reports. The role is integral to HDR's Environmental, Operations, and Construction (EOC) group, contributing to projects that impact communities and the environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the evaluation of projects to determine appropriate and economical systems for facilities.
  • Prepare original designs and preliminary and final designs for mechanical projects, including size, capacity, and economy.
  • Perform HVAC designs for various types of facilities, including barracks, academic complexes, and medical complexes.
  • Participate in on-site inspections and produce plans, diagrams, and reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates and inspection reports.
  • Perform HVAC and mechanical calculations and drafting for HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Collaborate closely with other engineers and drafters.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • General background-related experience in mechanical design or engineering.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or similar from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • Capability of working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Previous military experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs, bend, stoop, and kneel.
