About the position

The Mechanical Designer position at Actalent involves creating General Arrangement drawings, P&IDs, and 3-D modeling. The role encompasses various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, and the development of proposal and construction documentation. The designer will work on a diverse portfolio of projects, collaborating with a multi-discipline project team to deliver mechanical design solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in performing routine assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation.
  • Produce complete PFDs and P&IDs from verbal or written descriptions provided by the design engineer.
  • Apply basic formulas, principles, and practices, using knowledge of fundamental concepts pertaining to mechanical discipline.
  • Collaborate using design systems for the production of mechanical design deliverables.
  • Engage in drawing production work, including problem analysis, design layout, and calculations on non-routine assignments.
  • Assist with initial rough designs, sketches, redlines, or mark-ups on ongoing projects.
  • Analyze reports, drawings, and tests to plan and design projects.
  • Apply design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Complete and review design drawings within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files, and project-related information in a logical manner.
  • Comply with all company, client, and project design and drafting standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Mechanical design and drafting expertise.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel.
  • Experience with P&ID and 3D modeling.
  • Ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications for engineering drawings.
  • Basic knowledge in design, calculations, and design systems.
  • Understanding of engineering discipline theory and practices.
  • Capability to operate related discipline design software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in drafting technology or related field with 2 years of related experience, or
  • Associate Degree with 3 years of related experience, or
  • 4 years of progressive detailing and design experience.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
  • Collaborative skills to work with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers.
