About the position

The Mechanical Drafter Defense position involves drafting and revising detailed part, assembly, and installation engineering drawings specifically tailored for the aerospace sector. The role requires the use of established references and standard data in mechanical engineering to create precise and accurate drawings. The drafter will work closely with basic layouts and will be responsible for ensuring that all drawings meet the necessary specifications and standards required in the defense industry. This position is critical in supporting the design and manufacturing processes, contributing to the overall quality and efficiency of product development. In this role, the Mechanical Drafter will utilize advanced computer-aided design (CAD) software, including PTC/CREO, Autodesk AutoCAD, and Siemens NX, to produce high-quality engineering drawings. The drafter will also be tasked with incorporating redlines and revisions into existing drawings, adhering to standard engineering drafting practices and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) protocols. Key responsibilities include determining scaling, inserting reference planes, centering and dimension lines, and preparing complete production detail drawings. The drafter will also contribute design modifications aimed at improving product quality and facilitating manufacturing operations. The position is based in Northridge, California, and is expected to last for a duration of six months or longer. The pay rate for this contract position is $46 per hour on a W2 basis. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with relevant experience in mechanical drafting, particularly within the defense industry. The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance is also a requirement for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Drafts and revises detailed part, assembly, and installation engineering drawings from basic layouts, established references, and standard data in the field of mechanical engineering.
  • Utilizes computer-aided design software such as PTC/CREO, Autodesk AutoCAD, and Siemens NX.
  • Incorporates redlines and revises drawings utilizing standard engineering drafting practices and PLM.
  • Determines scaling; inserts necessary reference planes, centering and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations, and sectioning.
  • Prepares specifications for parts, assemblies, and installations; prepares complete production detail drawings.
  • Contributes design modifications to improve product quality or facilitates manufacturing operations.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years of related experience. Will accept a bachelor's or higher degree plus at least 2 years of related experience.
  • Previous work history with mechanical drafting in the Defense Industry.
  • Experience using ASME Y14.5 (GD&T).
  • Experience with PTC/CREO.
  • Experience with Siemens Teamcenter.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with envelope drawings as it pertains to CCA design and development.
  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical components and integration within systems (motors, sensors, actuators, etc.).
  • Experience with cable/harness drawings.
  • Experience with Model Based Definition (MBD) and Product Manufacturing Information (PMI).
  • Experience with detailed tolerance analyses.
  • A US Gov't Secret clearance.
  • Self-Starter familiar with dynamic work environments.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing (3D Printing, Rapid Prototyping, etc.).
  • Experience with Machining (Mill, Lathe, Router, etc.).
