About the position

The Mechanical Draftsman position at EMA Engineering & Consulting is an entry-level role designed for individuals with minimal or no design experience. This position is based in various locations including El Paso, TX, and offers a full-time opportunity for candidates looking to start their careers in mechanical drafting. The primary focus of this role is to learn EMA's design processes, set up projects, and track project deliverables and deadlines while adhering to the company's core values. The ideal candidate will be expected to engage with a production team, providing accurate detailed drafting and basic design support as they develop their skills and knowledge in the field. As a Mechanical Draftsman, you will be responsible for setting up all project-related documents, including sheets, views, notes, symbols, details, schedules, and diagrams. You will learn to apply EMA's design processes and understand the requirements set forth by owners and city regulations. Familiarity with code requirements such as NEC, IESNA, and IECC will be essential, as will the ability to set up and edit project specifications. You will also take design criteria, rough sketches, and discussed ideas to accurately draft systems in the drawings. Effective communication is crucial in this role, as you will need to relay questions and comments to team members, Team Leaders, and Project Managers. Fieldwork is also a component of the job, which may involve site visits to gather information about existing conditions. This could include driving to job sites, extensive walking, and navigating various physical environments such as crawlspaces and roofs. The position emphasizes continuous improvement, with regular reviews of your technical accuracy and project responsibilities by the Training Leader, Team Leader, and Department Leader.

Responsibilities

• Set up all projects with applicable sheets, views, notes, symbols, details, schedules, diagrams, etc.
• Learn and apply EMA design processes, deliverables requirements, owner requirements, city requirements, etc. to all design projects.
• Understand code requirements governing design, such as NEC, IESNA, IECC, etc.
• Set up project specifications and demonstrate the ability to edit them.
• Apply design and drafting of systems to drawings based on design criteria, rough sketches, and discussed ideas.
• Communicate effectively and accurately with team members, Team Leaders, and Project Managers.
• Conduct field work as needed for design, including site visits and recording existing conditions.

Requirements

• Associates of Applied Science in Engineering Design Technology or equivalent education preferred but not required.
• Working knowledge of REVIT and/or AutoCAD is preferred but not required.
• Entry-level position suitable for candidates with under 1 year of experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with AutoCAD and Revit software.
