About the position

Kiewit Nuclear Solutions is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering Team that is focused on the carbon-free technologies such as Small Modular Reactors. The Mechanical Design Engineer functions in a mid-level engineering capacity and performs all aspects of conventional and nuclear design engineering. The engineer in this position must have an aptitude for practical engineering, a willingness to immerse oneself in the position and rapidly learn the business, the ability to work with little supervision, strong leadership skills, and a willingness to travel periodically. Responsibilities

  • Perform integrated engineering processes to fulfill project requirements and achieve target dates.
  • Author and review designs, specifications, analyses, and drawings in compliance with engineering principles and applicable standards.
  • Prepare and review design concept drawings for equipment using input from various technical disciplines.
  • Recognize, define, and resolve problems within assigned area.
  • Ensure compliance with strict quality assurance standards and on-time delivery.
  • Travel (less than 20% of time)

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited, four-year university.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in design with a minimum of 3 years DOE Nuclear experience or similar environment.
  • Knowledge, application, and understanding of ASME Codes.
  • Knowledgeable in glove box design.
  • Excellent attention to detail and capability for producing error-free documents.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of engineering design practices and principles (e.g. interference checks, tolerance stack-ups, fits, GD&T).
  • Experience with using industry codes to develop equipment design.
  • Experience working with engineers and fabricators to develop designs and drawings.
  • Experience in the preparation of equipment sizing calculations, P&ID, PFD, and General Arrangement drawings for skid mounted or permanent equipment packages.
