About the position

Tesla's actuator team is at the forefront of designing and building actuators for humanoid bi-pedal robots, known as the Tesla Bot. This role is pivotal in the development of high-performance electromechanical rotary and linear actuator systems that are essential for the functionality of these robots. The actuators designed by Tesla must not only deliver exceptional performance but also exhibit high efficiency and torque density. As a member of this innovative team, you will collaborate closely with electromagnetic motor design engineers to create the most torque and force dense rotary and linear electromechanical actuator systems in the world. In this position, you will be responsible for the design and integration of rotary and linear speed reduction systems tailored for high-performance motion control actuator applications. Your role will involve continuous evaluation of new technologies and design improvements aimed at developing power-dense, efficient, low-cost, and reliable electromechanical gear systems and actuators. You will also engage in the design and construction of motor, gear, and actuator prototypes to validate their mechanical and electromechanical performance. This hands-on role will require basic fabrication, machining, wiring, general electronics, debugging, and parts chasing, ensuring that you are deeply involved in the practical aspects of actuator design. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work alongside supply chain, vendor, and manufacturing engineers to ensure that the designs are feasible and can be effectively produced. Your contributions will be critical in pushing the boundaries of actuator technology and enhancing the capabilities of Tesla's humanoid robots.
