About the position

As a Mechanical Engineer at Electric Boat, you will play a crucial role in supporting the design, testing, and construction efforts for various classes of submarines, including the LOS ANGELES, OHIO, SEAWOLF, VIRGINIA, and COLUMBIA Classes. This position is based in Groton, CT, and is integral to ensuring the shock and vibration qualification of submarine systems, components, and equipment. You will be responsible for coordinating and tracking the shock qualification of equipment across all submarine classes, which involves performing standard mechanical stress calculations and comparing material properties to demonstrate the shock resistance of equipment. Your role will also include conducting thorough reviews of installation drawings, detailed drawings, shock test procedures, and test reports. You will provide essential test support at Electric Boat facilities, as well as at vendor and subcontractor locations. This position requires strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, as you will need to collaborate effectively with various groups and organizations within the engineering environment. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and capable of working independently while also being able to engage with team members and stakeholders to achieve project goals. You may be required to work nights or weekends to meet project schedules, and travel may also be necessary depending on project needs.

Responsibilities

  • Support design, test, and construction efforts for various classes of submarines.
  • Coordinate and track the shock qualification of equipment in all classes of submarines.
  • Perform standard mechanical stress calculations and compare material properties to demonstrate shock resistance of equipment.

Requirements

  • BS/MS/Technical degree in mechanical or marine engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years of engineering experience.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Willingness to work nights or weekends when needed to support schedules.
  • Candidate must be from organizations outside of operations (Casciano/Gabriel).

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering.
