About the position

The Mechanical Engineer position is focused on providing engineering support for the design, testing, and construction of various classes of submarines, including the LOS ANGELES, OHIO, SEAWOLF, VIRGINIA, and COLUMBIA classes. This role is critical in ensuring that submarine systems, components, and equipment meet the necessary shock and vibration qualification standards. Engineers in this position will be responsible for coordinating and tracking the shock qualification of equipment across all submarine classes. This includes performing standard mechanical stress calculations and comparing material properties to demonstrate the shock resistance of equipment. Additionally, the role involves conducting thorough reviews of installation drawings, detailed drawings, shock test procedures, and test reports to ensure compliance with engineering standards. Engineers will also provide test support at Electric Boat facilities, as well as at vendor and subcontractor locations. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration with various teams to ensure that all engineering efforts align with project schedules and quality standards. The successful candidate will need to be adaptable, as the role may require working nights or weekends to meet project deadlines. Travel may also be necessary to support engineering activities at different locations.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • BS/MS/Technical degree in mechanical or marine engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years of engineering experience.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Willingness to work nights or weekends when needed to support schedules.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering.
