About the position

The Mechanical Engineer (Facilities) position at Crayola is a full-time, on-site role located in Easton, PA. This position plays a crucial role in the manufacturing process of Crayola's products, ensuring that operations are conducted safely and efficiently. The Mechanical Engineer will leverage their training in mechanical engineering to maintain the critical infrastructure that supports all manufacturing activities. This highly technical role is designed to provide in-house expertise that external engineering services cannot match in terms of timeliness and cost-effectiveness. In this role, the engineer will be responsible for a variety of mechanical systems, including chillers, cooling towers, supply distribution piping, pumps, air compressors, and more. The engineer will need to adapt to a large and complex environment, providing mechanical engineering support for the design, operation, and maintenance of manufacturing assets across multiple locations, including the Lehigh Valley, Mexico, and TCE. The position requires designing mechanical components and systems, presenting results through 3D drawings and process flow diagrams, and leading cross-functional teams to solve chronic manufacturing problems. Additionally, the Mechanical Engineer will manage capital projects of varying sizes, overseeing design reviews, cost estimates, and installation specifications. They will also provide on-site supervision during emergency maintenance events, ensuring that technical support is available 24/7. This role demands a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support mechanical systems including chillers, cooling towers, piping, pumps, and air-handling units.
  • Provide mechanical engineering support for the design, operation, and maintenance of manufacturing assets.
  • Design mechanical components and systems, presenting results in 3D drawings using GD&T standards.
  • Design piping systems, including material selection and pump/line sizing calculations.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to identify root causes of manufacturing problems and propose solutions.
  • Manage capital projects, including design reviews, cost estimates, and scheduling.
  • Provide on-site supervision and technical support during emergency maintenance events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Five or more years of professional experience in a manufacturing or facility environment.
  • Expert knowledge of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, strength of materials, and metallurgy as applied to manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient in 3D solid modeling software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Experience with structured problem-solving methods such as Six Sigma DMAIC or Lean A3.
  • Extensive experience with industrial trades practices including HVAC, machining, and metal fabrication.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing codes and standards including ASME and ASTM.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with project management and capital project oversight.
  • Familiarity with safety audits and financial accounting in a manufacturing context.
