Currently, DLZ is seeking a Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC and Plumbing for opportunities in Indianapolis and South Bend, Indiana. The role involves designing heating, ventilation, and cooling systems as well as plumbing systems. The engineer will be responsible for conducting load calculations, life cycle costing, and energy modeling, while also coordinating with other disciplines and working in a team environment. Mentoring and overseeing production staff is a key aspect of the position, along with reviewing the installation of designed equipment and systems to ensure compliance with construction documents. The Mechanical Engineer will manage multiple projects within established schedules, working on a variety of project types, scales, and complexities. Responsibilities also include preparing construction cost estimates, assisting in the development of contract specifications, and researching new procedures and products. The engineer will meet with clients to discuss project scope, schedules, and budgets, and is expected to perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to the Health and Safety Plan. The role requires a positive representation of the company and its core values, along with the ability to perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Design heating-ventilation-cooling systems and plumbing systems.
  • Conduct load calculations, life cycle costing, and energy modeling.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and work in a team environment.
  • Mentor and oversee production staff.

  • Perform duties with multiple projects within the established schedules.
  • Work on a wide variety of project types, scales, and complexity.
  • Work on concurrent projects.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates, both in a broad and detailed scope.
  • Assist in the development of contract specifications and research the application of new procedures and/or products.
  • Meet with clients to discuss project scope, schedule, and budgets.
  • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.
  • Act as a positive representative of the company and its core values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree
  • 10 or more years' experience in design, layout, and analysis for HVAC and plumbing systems for buildings
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Revit and AutoCAD skills preferred
  • LEED AP and/or Commissioning credentials preferred
  • Knowledge of Indiana Mechanical and Plumbing Codes
  • Experience with neighboring states' codes a plus
  • Experience working on publicly funded and municipal projects is a plus
  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and comply with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
