The Mechanical Engineer I position at Daifuku Automotive America Corporation involves designing, developing, and detailing mechanical components and systems for automated material handling in the automotive industry. Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing, and detailing mechanical components, equipment, and machinery.
  • Applying engineering principles to design products, including fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical products.
  • Estimating main line materials handling systems for automotive manufacturing lines.
  • Performing engineering studies to develop reliable and optimum material handling systems based on engineering practices or customer requirements.
  • Using CAD systems for designing and detailing mechanical components and structural items.
  • Communicating with customers, vendors, and departments as needed.
  • Ordering, tracking, and coordinating onsite materials.
  • Supporting field modifications and commissioning of systems.
  • Conducting plant/construction site field inspections.
  • Interfacing with fabrication/manufacturing teams.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD required.
  • Experience with 3-D CAD software, such as Inventor or similar.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, structural materials, and steel machining/welding practices.
  • Demonstrated PC skills including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Experience in system design and implementation in an industrial or manufacturing environment, preferably automotive.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with automotive customer specifications.
  • Basic experience writing hardware specifications.
  • Experience communicating regular status to clients, superiors, and peers.
