About the position

As a Mechanical Engineer II at Amazon Robotics, you will be part of a dynamic team that is dedicated to innovation and problem-solving in the field of robotics. This role is centered around developing innovative system architectures and module designs for our robot drive solutions. You will engage in a collaborative environment where teamwork is essential, and your contributions will directly impact the customer experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, with a focus on designing and analyzing mechanical systems. You will be expected to apply your practical knowledge of medium volume manufacturing methods, including stamping, extrusion, casting, and injection molding, to create effective solutions that meet our high standards of quality and performance. In this position, you will work closely with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production. This includes defining specifications, designing prototypes, validating designs, and conducting thorough testing. You will collaborate with various departments such as Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality to ensure a smooth product launch and maintain a high-performing robotic fleet worldwide. Your responsibilities will also include writing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures, showcasing your ability to take ownership of projects from cradle to grave. Responsibilities

  • Working with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including specification, design, prototyping, validation and testing
  • Collaborating with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality organizations as well as vendors to ensure a smooth product launch and sustain a high performing robotic fleet worldwide
  • Writing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures
  • Exhibiting role model behaviors of thorough engineering analysis and cradle to grave ownership

Requirements

  • BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • SolidWorks or similar CAD experience with best practices for part design, advanced assemblies, complex configuration management
  • Hands on experience crafting simple proof-of-concept models
  • Thorough understanding and use of principles, theories and concepts in mechanical engineering
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to effectively communicate concepts and write technical documents

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment through the full product development cycle from inception through maturity including creating associated documentation (specs, test plans, drawings, etc.)
  • Proficiency documenting designs in accordance with ANSI Y-14.5
  • Experience designing and debugging tooled (cast, injection mold, forge, stamp, etc) components
  • Proven experience in root cause analysis
  • Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software and processing engineering change orders (ECOs)
  • MS in Mechanical Engineering
