About the position

As a Mechanical Engineer III at CannonDesign, you will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team, working under the guidance of a licensed engineer. Your role will encompass a variety of projects, including new construction and renovations across sectors such as education, healthcare, corporate commercial, and science and technology. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and project management skills, as you will be responsible for the design and implementation of HVAC systems, as well as assisting with plumbing and fire protection designs when necessary. In this role, you will independently perform and direct the design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems on assigned projects. For more complex projects, you may work under the supervision of a professional engineer. You will also be expected to calculate heating and cooling loads, layout designs, and utilize energy modeling software to ensure efficiency and compliance with project specifications. Your responsibilities will include preparing Revit/BIM models of construction drawings, editing specifications, and conducting thorough research to address emergent issues as they arise. Additionally, you will interface effectively with clients and project team members, attending meetings to discuss project budgets and progress. Your role will involve reviewing shop drawings for compliance, responding to RFIs, and preparing construction documents. You will conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and monitor construction progress, which may require physical walkthroughs of the site. As a Mechanical Engineer III, you will also coordinate work activities among team members and participate in business development and marketing initiatives. Professional business attire is required for client meetings, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a professional image in all interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and direct design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems independently on assigned projects.
  • Assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection Designs as necessary.
  • Supervise or provide project management direction within the mechanical discipline, including monitoring project progress and budget.
  • Calculate heating and cooling loads, layout, and design ductwork and piping using energy modeling software.
  • Prepare Revit/BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases.
  • Edit specifications relating to existing or new projects.
  • Research as needed and respond to emergent issues.
  • Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
  • Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Interface effectively with clients and project team members, attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings.
  • Respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
  • Conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
  • Coordinate work activities on specific projects with various team members.
  • Participate in business development and marketing activities.
  • Travel as required.
  • Maintain professional business attire when attending client meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Bachelor of Architectural Engineering (Mechanical Systems focus) from an ABET accredited program required.
  • Minimum of 6 years of related experience required.
  • Current PE in the United States preferred.
  • LEED accreditation preferred.
  • Working knowledge and experience in mechanical engineering design.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects.
  • Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs (i.e. Revit, Trane Trace or Trane 3D Plus) required.
