About the position

As a Mechanical Engineer III at CannonDesign, you will be an integral part of our multi-disciplinary team, working under the guidance of a licensed engineer. Your role will encompass a variety of projects, including new construction and renovations across sectors such as education, healthcare, corporate commercial, and science and technology. You will be expected to perform and direct the design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems independently on assigned projects. For more complex projects, you may work under the supervision of a professional engineer, and you will also assist with plumbing and fire protection designs as necessary. In this position, you will take on responsibilities that include supervising or providing project management direction within the mechanical discipline. This will involve monitoring project progress and managing project budgets. You will calculate heating and cooling loads, layout, and design ductwork and piping using energy modeling software. Additionally, you will prepare Revit/BIM models of construction drawings for HVAC systems, progressing from schematic design to construction administration phases, which will include layout, sketches, and detailed drawings as required. You may also perform Revit/BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as needed. Your role will require you to edit specifications related to existing or new projects, conduct independent research to address emergent issues, and specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units. You will review shop drawings to ensure compliance with specifications and contract documents, interface effectively with clients and project team members, and attend Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with a focus on project budgets. Responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders during the preparation of construction documents will also be part of your responsibilities. You will conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, which may require physical walk-throughs of the site. Additionally, you will coordinate work activities on specific projects with various team members and participate in business development and marketing activities. Travel may be required for this position, and professional business attire is expected when attending client meetings.
