As a Mechanical Engineer-in-Training at CSHQA, you will play a vital role in the technical development of various projects, including institutional, retail, and commercial buildings. This position involves working closely with a licensed professional engineer to create schematic designs, construction documents, specifications, and to assist in construction administration. Your contributions will be essential in ensuring that projects are executed efficiently and meet client expectations. In this role, you will engage in mechanical engineering design, focusing on basic HVAC and plumbing systems. You will be responsible for specifying and sizing mechanical equipment such as air handling units, chillers, cooling towers, and compressors. This includes making informed decisions regarding system selection and layout to optimize performance and cost-effectiveness. You will also perform HVAC load calculations and other engineering calculations to support the development of technically sound construction documents. Your responsibilities will extend to conducting site surveys, attending design meetings, and preparing detailed technical narrative reports based on your observations during the construction phase. You will assist in the construction administration process by reviewing submittals and drawings, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), and coordinating with contractors, the design team, building officials, and owners throughout the project lifecycle. Effective communication and collaboration with architects, owners, and other engineering disciplines will be crucial to the success of the projects you work on.
