About the position

As a Mechanical Engineer-in-Training at CSHQA, you will play a vital role in the technical development of various projects, including institutional, retail, and commercial buildings. This position involves working closely with a licensed professional engineer to create schematic designs, construction documents, specifications, and to assist in construction administration. Your contributions will be essential in ensuring that projects are executed efficiently and meet client expectations. In this role, you will engage in mechanical engineering design, focusing on basic HVAC and plumbing systems. You will be responsible for specifying and sizing mechanical equipment such as air handling units, chillers, cooling towers, and compressors. This includes making informed decisions regarding system selection and layout to optimize performance and cost-effectiveness. You will also perform HVAC load calculations and other engineering calculations to support the development of technically sound construction documents. Your responsibilities will extend to conducting site surveys, attending design meetings, and preparing detailed technical narrative reports based on your observations during the construction phase. You will assist in the construction administration process by reviewing submittals and drawings, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), and coordinating with contractors, the design team, building officials, and owners throughout the project lifecycle. Effective communication and collaboration with architects, owners, and other engineering disciplines will be crucial to the success of the projects you work on.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical engineering design of basic HVAC and plumbing systems for institutional, retail and commercial building projects.
  • Specify and size HVAC and Plumbing mechanical equipment such as air handling units, chillers, cooling towers and compressors including system selection and layout.
  • Perform and prepare HVAC load calculations and other various engineering calculations and well-coordinated, technically sound construction documents that are cost-effective, clear and efficient.
  • Perform site surveys, attend design meetings, and prepare construction phase site observations to present in detailed technical narrative reports.
  • Assist in the construction administration phase to include review of submittals / drawings, response to RFIs, and coordination with contractors, design team, building officials, owner, etc. through the construction phase of the building project.
  • Communicate and coordinate with architects, owners, other engineering disciplines, vendors, consultants, etc. throughout the design phases of the building project.

Requirements

  • Excellent soft skills including listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented team player with the ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Revit and/or AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Knowledge of International Codes is preferred.
  • FE / EIT certification may be required.
