About the position

Miller Electric, a leader in the welding industry, is seeking a self-motivated Mechanical Engineer to join the Industrial Equipment Division. This role is pivotal in New Product Development and the ongoing improvement of existing products, specifically focusing on industrial welding products such as power sources, wire feeders, and related accessories. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical aptitude and a passion for blending theoretical knowledge with practical mechanical skills. In this position, you will provide mechanical support for industrial welding products, addressing issues encountered in the field, on the manufacturing line, or with suppliers. You will be responsible for integrating new features into existing products and addressing warranty claims promptly and efficiently. Your role will also involve selecting and designing for various manufacturing processes, including sheet metal, injection molding, machining, and die castings, while integrating Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) best practices into new designs. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work within cross-functional design teams to develop best-in-class products. You will collaborate with Operations/Manufacturing, Product Management, Customer Service, suppliers, and end users to ensure that all products meet regulatory compliance and quality assurance standards. Upholding industry standards and maintaining a high level of quality and reliability in all products and services is essential. To succeed in this role, you must be adaptable, a self-starter, and possess strong communication skills. You will need to demonstrate design skills, including the ability to design for manufacturing and assembly, and have experience with 3D modeling, preferably using SolidWorks. Additionally, you will analyze mechanical components and use hands-on tools to test, analyze, and select materials and manufacturing methods based on durability and cost-effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical support for industrial welding products including power sources, wire feeders, and related accessories.
  • Resolve issues encountered in the field, on the manufacturing line, or with suppliers.
  • Integrate new features into existing products as needed.
  • Address warranty claims promptly and efficiently.
  • Provide mechanical engineering for industrial welding products including power sources, wire feeders, and related accessories.
  • Select and design for various manufacturing processes including Sheet Metal, Injection Molding, Machining, and Die Castings.
  • Integrate DFMA best practices into new designs.
  • Work within cross-functional design teams to develop best-in-class products.
  • Collaborate with Operations/Manufacturing, Product Management, Customer Service, suppliers, and end users.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
  • Uphold industry standards and regulations in product development and support processes.
  • Maintain an elevated level of quality and reliability in all products and services offered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of mechanical engineering experience, 5+ years' experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with 3D modeling, SolidWorks and PDM preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience designing and testing to 3rd party (UL/CSA/CE) standards.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software experience.
  • Experience in design methods to address equipment exposure to severe environmental conditions (temperature, moisture, and dust).
  • Familiar with ANSI/ASME industry standards.
