About the position

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering is seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Lenexa, KS. Candidates should be well-versed in current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software, and possess a solid understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. As part of the Kiewit team, you will be involved in designing various mechanical systems typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities. This includes process piping, conveying systems, dust collection, and general plant/facility water systems. You will prepare design calculations and equipment specifications, perform detailed technical bid analyses, and generate design deliverables such as PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings. Additionally, you will support the construction team by representing the design team on-site, answering RFIs, and providing creative design solutions. Coordination with other design partners, including construction partners and equipment suppliers, will also be a key aspect of your responsibilities. Responsibilities

  • Design various mechanical systems typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities including process piping, conveying systems, dust collection, and general plant/facility water systems.
  • Prepare design calculations and equipment specifications typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities including bulk solids conveyors, dust collection equipment, bins/tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, and boilers.
  • Perform detailed technical bid analyses for equipment typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities.
  • Generate and check design deliverables such as PFD's, P&ID's, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
  • Support the construction team by representing the design team on-site, answering RFIs, and providing creative design solutions.
  • Coordinate with other design partners including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task and review work progress and results.
  • Develop schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
  • Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, mass/energy balances, preliminary equipment sizing and selection, and general facility layout/arrangement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year university.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification required; Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of industry-related engineering experience.
  • Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Preferred experience utilizing AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in plant floor process design, packaging, refrigerated/frozen facility design, and ammonia refrigeration systems.
