About the position

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering is seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Lenexa, KS. We are looking for individuals with a minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical or process engineering, particularly in areas such as biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, or other industrial facilities and equipment. Familiarity with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software is essential, along with a solid understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Candidates should be adaptable in their work assignments and possess a growth mindset to continue developing their technical and professional skills. Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc. is a full-service consulting and engineering firm that serves various infrastructure and engineering markets. With a staff of over 1,700 engineers and design professionals, we have expertise across all major engineering disciplines, focusing on transportation, power, water/wastewater, mining, building, and oil, gas & chemical markets. Our Industrial Design Group is rapidly growing and includes various disciplines such as process, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil engineering. We specialize in the EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects, particularly in the Food & Beverage, Consumer Products, Heavy Manufacturing, and Industrial Water and Utilities sectors. Our expertise includes plant floor process design, packaging, refrigerated/frozen facility design, and ammonia refrigeration systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design various mechanical systems typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities including process piping, conveying systems, dust collection, general plant/facility water, compressed air, and gas systems.
  • Prepare design calculations and equipment specifications typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities including bulk solids conveyors, dust collection equipment, bins/tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, and other process equipment.
  • Perform detailed technical bid analyses for equipment typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, food and beverage, and other industrial facilities.
  • Generate and check design deliverables such as PFD's, P&ID's, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
  • Support the construction team including representing the design team on-site, answering RFI's, providing creative design solutions, etc.
  • Coordinate with other design partners (both internal and external) including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task and review work progress and results.
  • Develop schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
  • Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, mass/energy balances, preliminary equipment sizing and selection, and general facility layout/arrangement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year university.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification required; Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of industry related engineering experience.
  • Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Preferred experience utilizing AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent).
