Full-time - Intern
Fairfax, VA
Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services

About the position

CMTA, a Legence company, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern/Co-op for the Summer 2025 semester, starting in May 2025. This position is designed for college students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferably those in their sophomore or junior years. The internship will provide an immersive experience in the field of Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Contracting (ESPCs), which is a core business of CMTA's Energy Solutions division. The ESPCs allow for facility upgrades in a budget-neutral or even budget-positive manner by redirecting funds typically spent on utilities into necessary renovations and improvements. This includes a comprehensive process that covers everything from scope development and design to construction management and ongoing energy management services. The co-op program at CMTA is robust and aims to develop students into full-time caliber employees. Interns will work closely with full-time engineers under the direct supervision of Professional Engineers, gaining hands-on experience in various aspects of energy solutions. The program is structured to ensure that each co-op stands out by taking on challenging projects, rather than receiving a uniform experience. Interns will be involved in multiple stages of Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Contracts, from initial development through implementation, allowing them to build industry-competitive skills in a collaborative environment. Mechanical co-ops can expect to gain practical experience with photovoltaic systems, LED lighting designs, HVAC systems (including geothermal), and building automation systems. By the end of the program, co-ops will have developed a strong foundation in the Energy Service Company (ESCO) industry, positioning them for future opportunities within one of the fastest-growing ESCOs in the country.
