Full-time - Intern
Nashville, TN
Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services

About the position

CMTA, a Legence company, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern/Co-op for the Summer 2025 semester, starting in May 2025. This position is based in Brentwood, TN, and is designed for college students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferably those in their sophomore or junior years. The internship will provide an immersive experience in the field of Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Contracting (ESPCs), which is a core business of CMTA's Energy Solutions division. The ESPCs allow for facility upgrades and renovations in a budget-neutral or even budget-positive manner by redirecting funds already spent on utilities into facility improvements. This role will involve various stages of project development, from initial site visits and energy calculations to the production of detailed construction documents using CAD. Interns will work closely with full-time engineers and will be supervised by Professional Engineers, gaining hands-on experience with energy-efficient systems such as photovoltaic systems, LED lighting designs, HVAC systems, and building automation systems. The program is structured to develop students into full-time caliber employees, providing them with the opportunity to contribute to the company's growth while building industry-competitive skills. Interns will be involved in multiple Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Contracts, allowing them to engage in every stage of project development, from initial development through implementation. This unique co-op program is designed to stand out from typical rotations, offering challenging projects that enhance the learning experience and prepare students for careers in the Energy Service Company (ESCO) industry.
