Full-time - Intern
Brentwood, TN
Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services

About the position

CMTA, a Legence company, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern/Co-op for the Summer 2025 semester, starting in May 2025. This position is designed for college students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), preferably those in their sophomore or junior years. The internship will provide an immersive experience in the Energy Solutions division, focusing on Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs). These contracts allow for facility upgrades in a budget-neutral or even budget-positive manner by redirecting funds typically spent on utilities into necessary renovations. The intern will gain hands-on experience in various aspects of energy efficiency, including site visits, building audits, energy calculations, and the development of energy models. The co-op program at CMTA is structured to ensure that students not only learn but also contribute meaningfully to the company's projects. Interns will work closely with full-time engineers and Professional Engineers, engaging in collaborative project tasks that span the entire lifecycle of energy savings contracts. This includes everything from initial project development to implementation, providing a comprehensive understanding of the energy service company (ESCO) industry. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and a willingness to travel locally for fieldwork. By the end of the program, interns will have developed industry-competitive skills and gained valuable experience that will prepare them for future careers in energy solutions and engineering.
