About the position

Armstrong World Industries (AWI) is seeking motivated candidates for our Summer Engineering Internship opportunities based at our manufacturing plants in Marietta, PA. As an Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to utilize your technical savviness to gain a deep understanding of Armstrong products, processes, and test requirements. The Engineering Internship Program offers various roles, including Mechanical - Capital Engineering Intern and Mechanical - Maintenance Engineering Intern. As a Capital Engineering Intern, you will complete an assigned engineering project during the internship and contribute to several ongoing capital engineering projects within the plant. You will gain experience with the Project Management Life Cycle, including preparation of project specifications, project schedule coordination, installation oversight, and sustainability initiatives. Additionally, you will have valuable insight into large-scale manufacturing facilities, equipment, and safe working practices, including updating existing drawings and creating new drawings using AutoCAD. As a Maintenance Engineering Intern, you will experience the primary components of Equipment Reliability, including asset management, process improvement, capital management, contractor integration, and the development of machine maintenance best practices. This internship will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the engineering field and the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment that values individual achievement and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Complete an assigned engineering project during the term of the internship.
  • Contribute to several ongoing capital engineering projects within the plant.
  • Prepare project specifications and requirements.
  • Coordinate project schedules and utilize Project Management tools.
  • Oversee installation and project closing activities.
  • Participate in sustainability initiatives.
  • Update existing drawings and create new drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Gain experience with asset management and process improvement.
  • Develop machine maintenance best practices.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) at an ABET accredited program.
  • Maximum of 24 months away from graduation.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA (cumulative, and within major).
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Capability to build and nurture relationships with other functions within Armstrong.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous internship in a manufacturing environment.
  • AutoCAD experience.
